Hello! Welcome to RETRO and welcome to the past!
This is the new magazine that will should you how what is hot today can be hot again tomorrow and how what was hot in yesteryear is now hot again today. We'll examine the movies, the music, the clothes, the toys, the fashions, the faces, the places that people are returning to after having been there so many times before.
Just when you thought the war was over, the empire defeated, now George Lucas is turning back the sands of Tatooine to bring you The Phantom Menace! Will Episode I fulfill industry prophecy and audience expectations? Or has Lucas surrendered to the dark side of the force? Within these pages we'll show you how the Star Wars phenomena first exploded into human consciousness, from the hype, to the technology, to the modern world mythology.
Planning to join the mob at cinemas for "The Mod Squad"? We'll take you back to the time when people were packing the living room in order to enjoy the original crew. We'll also tell you where they can be found in syndication, along with "MASH", "The Honeymooners", "Taxi", and other classic television shows and giving you the stories behind the stories.
Think you look spiffy in your bell bottoms and platforms? Find out when are where the trends started and where to buy the latest and the earliest of these returning fashions. We'll take you up and down the catwalk, in and out of specialty stores, vintage clothing stores, and even to some of this nations best thrift stores, where you might still be able to buy some of yesteryears cloths at yesteryears prices.
And while your getting into the swing of things, the whole music industry seems to be retroflexing We'll take you back to see how swing music swayed the 1930s and how it has returned to rock the 1990s. Been hearing rumors about 80's metal making a come back? Busy insisting it never died? We'll find the truth for you.
We'll also spotlight the technological revolution. Busy loving Quake on your Saga 64? We'll remind you of Pac-Man on the Atari 2600. Still struggling to point-and-click your way around Windows and Macs? We'll take you back to those scary text prompts of Commodores, Apples, and the earliest PCs. Can't imagine life without your own personal cell phone? We'll take you back to the days of rotary phones and when party-line didn't mean fun. Love your wide-screen color televisions? We'll show you the old b&w and remind you about the time when you had to get out of your seats to change the channel and adjust the antenna (and is anyone up for a quick trip to the roof?) Can't imagine the meal that your mother didn't blast in he microwave? We'll take you back to the time when man discovered fire, and if we're lucky, maybe we'll see it become a fashionable cooking trend once again.
So come with us as we voyage into the past. While this might not be a TARDIS (a what? -- don't worry, we'll get to that, too), RETRO will prove to be the next best thing.
